Its Official: Broomfield 2010 posters

Those of you that know me, know that I love Methane Studios. Here is the Broomfield poster, and I'd love to get one so if any of you poster people out there can sell me one, lets do it. I am an avid backpackers and I think I'd trade my Winship or Stout Telluride old family dog denver handbill for it. See you in Broomfield!

Stay Tuned, Lots happening here at She Tilt My Frame the next couple days

There are a few things I am going to be posting on in the next day or two. One of them is Phish being in town for the next three nights, and the posters surrounding the shows. Also, last night was the Four Mile Canyon Revival Concert, of which Conscience Alliance contributed a poster.
The Rock Art Poster Expo is also going on up in Broomfield, so I will have plenty of pictures and such to show you all.
All that, plus many more Finished: projects and Neu Projects galore. Take care see you out there

Before n' After

This is a great example of what a decent frame and mat job can do to a piece. This print is done by Denver artist, Michael Scarano. This one was done for the Art Crank 2009, a really cool art show focusing on bicycles, art, music, and beer. Art Crank 2010 just passed by, google Art Crank for more info.

The silver frame and mat are a great match.

Finished:

Needed to get these posted. Some really slick looking pieces, ready to shine in D.C.

This My Morning Jacket piece had some nice metallic brass inks in it, so I found a metallic mat to match, and bring out that aspect in this technical print. Too cool.

This Phish one, however, is staying in Denver:

I really enjoyed doing this one. We went with the tickets above and below the piece, which gave it a long slim look. Also, there is a nice silver mat in there to bring out the metallic inks in the print itself. I am into the Methane Studios posters, check em out especially if you like Dave Matthews Band. They have been commissioned by DMB for the last few tours.

Artist Interview: Branden Otto

I want to take the time to introduce an artist that will be at the Mile High Poster Expo this year, Branden Otto. I recently came across his posters, and really wanted to learn more about him, so I looked him up!
Thank you again Branden for your time, maybe we can get an Elway poster for Broomfield? You know that guy rules this town.
Brandon has some amazing talent, coming up with some very original designs for Phish's Summer Tours. He really knows how to lay down some inks, and I cannot see what he comes up with next. If you see Branden out there this fall, say hello and get a print! You can also support him by following his blog - Branden Otto Art

Private Showings Available

I want to let the readers know about a really special opportunity to get their hands on some vintage rock memorabilia. I have a friend that is in town until September 20th or so, that has a very nice poster/handbill/memorabilia collection that he sells on occasion. Now is that occasion, and if you went to the Psychedelic Experience at the Denver Art Museum, you will recognize a lot of these posters, and artists. I am now the proud owner of 5 Mosocos , 2 Griffens and a total of 6 Family Dog Denver production works. If you'd like to set up a showing, look at pictures, and hear some great stories, click the "read more" link below. Thank you!

Neu Projects:

I am pressing a couple more posters today, they are My Morning Jacket posters from two awesome Denver performances.

Stay tuned, these frames will be finished tomorrow likely. The owner is moving to D.C. and he wanted some souvenirs from his days in Denver. Nice souvenir I must say!

Denver Collectors/Fans: Put these on your calendar

I saw these poster shows were happening soon and I wanted to give you Colorado fans a heads up about it. It sure looks like its going to be a fun time, I'll see you all there!

I'm really going to make the push to get a booth at this thing. It should be an excellent convention, especially seeing that the Mile High Poster Expo is going to be happening when Phish is in Broomfield.

Finished:

Glad to finally have these done and hanging on my wall, both of them are simple and although I did intentionally do that, I went a stronger route with the materials actually used. They both are done in a museum quality ragmat, and both have museum glass. They look sharp and classy.

Stay Classy Denver

Finished:

Finished the final details on these projects today-

This album is mounted in a floating mount style onto a bi-color background, with a raised double black ragmat  matting and a simple contemporary black frame to match. There will be some silver/grey accents put onto this piece before it gets delivered.

Also, I posted about this one last week. And since its not everyday that you get a setlist from a world tour,  I just pushed to finish it quick. I had to put the stub into it too,on account of the extrordinary row and seat location. Shout out to my boy Nick with PhatPhlogBlog.blogspot.com again, the ticket stub phenomenon lives on.

Broken Glass?

Ever had a moment when you wanted to rehang all your framed posters? You pull them all down, and set them up against the wall only to have them slide and slap the floor when you walk away, shattering the glass? Ah yes, the floor slap has taken many sheets of glass to the grave. Its an easy fix though, and can usually be done same day. This frame needed a new sheet of glass and a little more support to keep it from flexing the glass since its such a large piece.

But here it is, I wanted to get a picture before it went out the door:

E-mail me if you have any kind of preservation questions/tips. If you have thumbtack holes on an old poster, ther are ways to cover it with a mat in a frame. if you have stains, etc on your poster, I work in art restoration too. Save the posters of your youth.

New West Fest 2010

Fort Collins has a birthday party every year, and what a party it is. Bohemian Nights is the actual name of the music festival surrounding the New West Fest, and it is a festival that situated stages across the old town area and they fill those stages with some classic Colorado bands, and usually headliners of great quality. This year's headliners include The Flobots, Earth Wind & Fire, and Earl Scruggs with Family and Friends.
Saturday's headliners were Earth, Wind & Fire. I was unable to attend the Saturday night, but from what the headlines we saying, it was a bash to remember. I heard from numerous accounts that it was a record crowd in downtown Fort Collins pushing around 15,000. I love big fish stories. Anyway, those crowds got a little rowdy that night and a riot ensued. I will say though, that despite TONS of bad reporting from the scum we call media, this riot was NOT caused by Earth, WInd and Fire's stellar show. This riot happened hours after the last note, and likely included students from Colorado State University. Good old Fort Collins, what you got Boulder?

Back to the point, Sunday proved to be a monster bluegrass day on the Mountain Stage.
Spring Creek Bluegrass, Great American Taxi (poster below) and Earl Scruggs and Family can really brighten up any day.

Sorry about the bad photo on this one readers, the merch employee was being crazy and didnt want me to take a picture of it, so I had to be quick:

I also wanted to post this vid because this is one of my favorite bluegrass songs. Ever. and they opened with it:

Neu Projects:

Taking the curl out of two more posters this week, lets get into it

First off is the Trey Anastasio Band poster from the Fox Theater shows in 2006.
Poster design is by Jay Vollmar. Jay is responsible for many showbills in the Front Range area, although he does posters for shows all over the US and even some Europe dates. For me, Trey band really brings me back to my younger days. I really like the bright colors on this poster too, all the web images show it having more gold/red hues not hot pink and highlighter yellow that I pick up:

Secondly, I'm in the design process on this one:

I love this poster for many reasons, and I feel like it is the strongest design from this year's summer tour.
Brought to you by Methane Studios. Methane does all of Dave Matthews Band's posters and I really hope Phish commisions them to do more, they just do a solid bang up job. Again, I love this one and am looking forward to incorporate some metallics into the frame/mats to match the poster.

A Special treat on a very Special night.

Yeah you read it right, I capitalized the S on Special. What a night.
Rodrigo y Gabriela have continually been one of my favorite acts since seeing them for Valentine's Day at the Fillmore in 2008. What a show that was. and they continued it all with last Friday's show here at Red Rock Amphitheater.
To quote my boy John Blumenshine over at BCauzIWasThere: "Heavy metal, played on classical guitars, by Mexicans, who got their start in Dublin."

A nice poster, albeit not an event one, just a Summer Tour 2010 poster:

Xavier Rudd opened with his new group Izintaba, and it was def an acoustic barrage with all the didj effects, and massive wind instruments and tribal drums and what not. Mystical energy was feeding the twirling hippies.

Then came in Rod y Gab and they started strong and kept going, addressing issues and political stances along they way. That all came to a peak when Zach de la Rocha (Lead Singer/Rage Against the Machine) came out and spat Bombtrack with them. Wish I had a recording of that one, oh wait---

They finished off their set with an appearance from Al DiMeola. I honestly didn't even realize he was still alive, but I am well aware of his guitar playing. My old roommate Jeff Miller, an amazing guitar player himself, and I used to listen to This Is Jazz late into the night years ago. It was truly a treat, and I am seeming to have problems loading that one onto youtube....sorry guys

So amazing as it all was, I was able to get this little gem from one of the stage hands before they tore down

The setlist:

Damn right I'm framing it

Banksy: Stop and Search

Banksy is a British street artist that ruled the limits in the 90's. His style has influenced a lot of artist along the way, and his prints are routinely in the thousands of dollars.

This one is a replica of Banksy's famous Stop and Search.

This was a gift from someone who was selling T-shorts and prints in Town Park, Telluride. Really a generous gift and if you're the one who gave it to me and end up reading this, please email me, I forgot your name. And you rock.

Also, I would recommend the film "Exit Through the Gift Shop"  to anyone that reads this blog, it is seriously some deep art with names I know you've heard of:

Long time coming...

Its has been a while since I've been doing consistent posts here at She Tilt My Frame, its been a good summer though.
Lets get down to business, shall we?

This poster by Tyler Stout was a bitch of a poster to get my hands on. I also thought, that while it is a great poster, its not the best for Phish or Stout. more after the Jump >>>>>

Finished:

Here you go Derek, Happy 30th old man!
Craig Howell is a cool artist, mostly all of his stuff is like a printed graphic, never really seen his stuff in a screen or block. I've been trying to get his Halloween WSP poster, with no success. If you all know of one, let me know!

Neu Projects:

Well then lookie here:

We have a 2010 Furthur Winter Tour Poster by Mike Dubois and the folks at Further.net

This one is a poster I got last year and just now decided to frame for us. Its a poster by the Burlesque Designs studio. Love it and I'm thinking of ordering a nice velvet mat, not sure yet, stay tuned:

Then lastly this poster that was saved from a flood in Athens, but I am in the process of restoring it, making it look beautiful, then framing it with a HUGE frame I already have. This poster weighs in at a staggering 35x23" and will probably have a 45X33 inch frame. Awesome.

Possible Telluride Poster?

Likely not the official, but its a great one by AJ Masthay. Not sure how I'm going to get my hands on this one, but I sure would like to.

Finished:

Museum Glass is a high quality and high cost item that you can put into your picture framing. This is a perfect application of this glass as it is glare free and 99% UV free glass. With this Phish-Festival 8 3D poster by Pollock, the glare free really allows you to use 3D glasses and have the great effect intended in this special edition poster. This one had a great cutout for a pair of 3D glasses, Great idea Patrick!

Another upgrade to a standard picture frame is the ticket stub cutouts. It is a really cool way to put a personal touch to a showbill framing.

There is much to be said about adding ticket stubs to posters. My phriend Nick Stock over at PhatPhlogBlog.Blogspot.com had a great post concerning this and had a couple examples. Click here to see that post, its a great one.

I used to think it wasn't the best thing to do to a poster, and I argued that from a design standpoint I think it is important to have tickets that match iin some way to the poster. But after completing this project, I may think differently. It looks great and I am happy with the results. What do you think? Comment away below

Good things to come?

I oped my mailbox to these today:

I think the design is great, and usually the design falls in line with other items like poster, merchandise, signs, wristbands, etc. for that particular event. These are just the camping tickets, so looking forwad to other collectibles, like those cute little damn merit badges from this tour. Looks like another great way to frame ticket stubs along with your poster.

Speaking of which, how do you feel about framing the stub along with the poster? Its has been almost a hot-button topic for a lot of the people I talk to in the poster scene, with the squiggly line drawing down the middle. I will post on this matter in the next week so stay tuned.

Friday night and the feeling's right...

Finished off some frames this week, and they are looking fly! Take a peek, then enjoy your Friday night! I know I will ;)

Summer Favorites

Its been a great summer so far and here is a look back at some of my favorite posters thus far...

NBA thoughts...

Congrats to Melo and La La getting murrred up last Saturday in the NYC-
I know how you were feelin', and the wife looks da' bomb.

Among those in attendance at the wedding were Lebron James (who was booed by New Yorkers), A'mare Stoudemire, Chris Paul, the Kardashians, Spike Lee,  Luda, and a slew of other celebrity and power New Yorkers. With all the attention on the Miami Thrice, it seems as though Chris Paul had to take some of the spotlight concerning a possible New York connection. According to the New York Post's Marc Berman, attendee Chris Paul(notes) made a pretty interesting speech at the ceremony-
During Carmelo Anthony's wedding Saturday night at Cipriani's on 42nd Street, Chris Paul, the superstar New Orleans point guard, predicted a future Knicks Dream Team. [...]
According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar'e Stoudemire(notes), Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, "We'll form our own Big 3," Paul allegedly said.

So there you go Knicks fan, its possible, but then again you have Donnie Walsh and this story-

The Knicks now can chase superstars who actually want to play in New York: Carmelo Anthony(notes) in 2011 and point guards Chris Paul(notes) or Deron Williams(notes) in 2012.
As reported exclusively in yesterday's Post, the Knicks' insistence on no more than two guaranteed years for Felton at $15.8 million has given them the cap-space flexibility to offer one maximum contract for 2011 and another one for 2012, Knicks president Donnie Walsh told The Post yesterday.

Sounds like a good thing right? Then Donnie drops this, completely ruining all chances of a decent Knick rebuild and subsequently making my stomach hurt from laughing so hard-

A reunion between Isiah Thomas and the New York Knicks is possible, according to Donnie Walsh.
Walsh, the Knicks' president, said Thomas will be on his list of candidates if he is given the go-ahead to hire a general manager.
"With other people, yes, Isiah would be under consideration from me," Walsh said in a telephone interview Saturday. "But that's a situation the owner would have to be involved in."
Walsh said he hasn't hired a general manager for financial reasons. If Knicks owner James Dolan allows it, he said he will eventually do so. [...]
There is little question that Dolan would be willing to consider rehiring Thomas, who served as the club's president and eventually head coach for 4½ years. The two have maintained a close relationship since Thomas was fired by the Knicks in April 2008."

Laughable

And secondly- I will always watch Lebron for his highlights, but can't root for him to win a 'Chip. Which really makes me wonder if the Lakers and Heat are in the Finals next year, who do you root for? Lebron or Kobe?
